NORFOLK DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE

The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office is responsible for the prosecution of criminal offenses that occur within the twenty-seven cities and towns in Norfolk County. Map of Norfolk County With a staff of approximately 130 employees, the District Attorney's Office works with court personnel and the law enforcement community every day to prosecute approximately 20,000 cases a year. These cases involve homicide, sexual assault, domestic violence, robbery, drug sales and possession, fraud, theft, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and many other offenses. The vast majority of these criminal cases are prosecuted in one of the five district courts and three juvenile courtslocated throughout the county. More serious crimes are presented to a grand jury for indictment into Superior Court. The District Attorney's Office makes appropriate and effective use of alternative punishment and rehabilitation options for first-time offenders charged with less serious offenses. Under Massachusetts law, all criminal cases brought to prosecution must be handled by the Office of the District Attorney or the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General.
